Trash & Recycling


The Borough contracts for municipal wide residential curbside trash and recycling collection, except for Apartment complexes.  The cost for the collection is included in your municipal taxes.  Additionally, the Borough offers a weekly residential curbside yard waste pickup.

Berks County Recycling Services

Trash

Curbside collection of trash and recycling occurs every Tuesday.  Trash collections begins at 6 am on the following streets: Perkiomen Avenue, Saint Lawrence Avenue, Prospect Street, Bingaman Street, N. Bingaman Street, Oley Turnpike Road, Beechwood Drive and Parkview Road.  All other streets, collection begins at 7 AM.  Typically, trash collection begins after all recycling has been collected.  On occasion the hauler may run two trucks simultaneously.  Please have all items at the curb for pickup by 6 AM.   

Quantity & Amounts

Limit 3 - 32 Gallon Containers with Lid(s)

Limit 1 - Bulk Item:

  • One (1) additional 32 gallon container of trash
  • A sofa or a single piece of a sectional sofa
  • A single mattress or box spring of any size. MUST BE WRAPPED IN PLASTIC & TAPED SHUT
  • One (1) piece of furniture


 Any more than one bulk item placed at the curb will not be taken.  Any item refused by the hauler for collection ​must be removed within 24 hours. 

Restricted Items

The following are not allowed as bulk items:


  • Tires and Tire Rims
  • Items Containing Refrigerants (refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, dehumidifier, etc.)
  • Appliances
  • Construction Debris
  • Electronic Waste  (computers, printers, hard drives, monitors, keyboards, mouse, etc.) 
  • Televisions, Stereos, Blue-ray/DVD/VCR Players, etc.
  • Vegetation (grass, leaves, tree limbs, etc.​) (see yard waste collection)
  •  Materials Classified as Hazardous Waste (oil based paints, solvents, water based paint in liquid form (open lid and let harden before placing in trash), solvents, motor oil, antifreeze, items containing fuel, gas cylinders, etc.)


                 Call the Borough office prior to placing item at the curb if you are not sure.

If customers can’t find it, it doesn’t exist. Clearly list and describe the services you offer. Also, be sure to showcase a premium service.

Recycling

Residential curbside recycling is collected weekly on a Tuesday, unless a change is noted for a Holiday. Recycling pick up is single stream and residents can put out unlimited quantities each week. If your can does not have a recycling symbol, recycling stickers are available at no charge at the Borough office, please stop in at Borough hall, call the office or leave a message.  If you are not able to stop, we will deliver the stickers to you!

Instructions

  1. Single Stream - no need to separate items
  2. Unlimited Quantities
  3. Place curbside by 6 AM in a Lidded Container (trash hauler is not responsible for cleaning up recyclables blown around the neighborhood)
  4. Please separate your trash containers from your recycling containers by a foot or more (do not mix at the curb)
  5. If your can does not have a recycling symbol, recycling stickers are available at no charge at the Borough office, please stop in at Borough hall, call the office or leave a message.  If you are not able to stop, we will deliver the stickers to you!
  6. Please break down (flatten) cardboard boxes

What TO Recycle

  • All numbered plastics except for styrofoam and plastic bags.  
  • Plastic grocery bags may be placed into recycling
  • Newspapers and Telephone Books
  • Junk Mail
  • Computer Paper, Office Paper, and Gift Wrap
  • Magazines and Paperback Books
  • Brown Paper Bags
  • Cardboard, Chipboard (cereal and cake boxes) and Carrier Stock (soda and beer can carrying cases)
  • Food Grade Glass Bottles and Jars (please rinse)
  • Aluminum, Bi-Metal, Steel, and Tin Cans (please rinse)
  • Clean Aluminum Trays and Foil

What NOT to put in Recycle

  • Greasy Food Packaging (pizza boxes go in the trash)
  • Used Paper Towels (trash)
  • Hardback Books, Furniture, Working Small Appliances, and Clothing (can be donated at the Goodwill at 3001 Saint Lawrence Avenue across from the Antietam Valley Shopping Center)
