St. Lawrence has a “weak mayor-strong council” form of government, with seven elected council members. Council members are elected for a four-year term and are staggered for election every two years. The mayor is elected for a four-year term. The Borough Manager is appointed to the position by the Borough Council and is delegated the responsibility for taking care of the day-to-day business of the Borough. The Manager operates under the directions and official actions of the Council. Among other duties is the responsibility for directing and supervising the daily work of the administrative/department staff.
The main areas of local services include police and fire protection, maintenance of local roads and streets, water supply, sewage collection and treatment, parking and traffic control, local planning and zoning, parks and recreation, garbage collection, health services, libraries, licensing of businesses, and code enforcement.
